Disney’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass: A Complete Guide (2024)

A complete and comprehensive guide to the Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass at the Disney Parks.

Waiting in line is part of the experience of the Disney Parks. There’s a reason terms like “rope drop” have become part of the Disney lexicon — guests will do anything they can to shorten the wait for Disney World or Disneyland’s most popular attractions. Previously, Disney World offered the free FastPass+ service to skip the line, while Disneyland offered a paid MaxPass. Starting in 2021 this all changed, with both parks offering a new paid Disney Genie+ service.

However, in 2024, this changed again. Now, instead of Disney Genie+, Disney is offering Lightning Lane Multi Pass as a paid way to skip the lines at Disney World or Disneyland. You can add this service onto your theme park ticket to skip the standby queue in favor of a Lightning Lane, ensuring a shorter wait time. In this guide we’ll be breaking down everything you need to know about Disney’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass, as well as its accompanying Lightning Lane Single Pass.

What is Lightning Lane Multi Pass?

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a new name for the Disney Genie+ service. It’s a paid service you can add to your Disney World or Disneyland theme park ticket to skip the line on select attractions. It’s a single-day service that you can also purchase for multiple days of your trip.

Purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass gives you access to Lightning Lanes for select experiences with a reserved arrival window. Once your window opens, you can scan in at the ride’s Lightning Lane. Unlike Disney Genie+, Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to plan in advance. Guests in the U.S. and Canada will be able to choose up to three multi pass experiences and arrival windows in a single theme park before their visit.

If you are staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you can make your first three reservations seven days prior to your arrival, or three days prior if you do not have an on-site reservation.Lightning Lane Multi Pass will also include other perks, like digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos captured with Disney PhotoPass.

What is Lightning Lane Single Pass?

Along with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, there is Lightning Lane Single Pass. This is the new name for the previous Individual Lightning Lanes, meaning you can purchase just one Lightning Lane entry for a specific attraction. This is available for some of the most popular rides at the parks, and is entirely separate from Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

However, similarly to Multi Pass, Disney World Resort hotel guests can book their Lightning Lane Single Pass up to seven days in advance (or three days if not staying on-site).

What Happened to Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes?

Disney Genie+ was a paid service that replaced FastPass+ at Disney World and MaxPass at Disneyland. Purchasing Genie+ gave you access to Lightning Lanes for various attractions, with prices dependent on the day and demand levels. Lightning Lane Multi Pass has taken the place of Genie+, with a new name and some new rules. While both services work quite similarly (in fact, at Disneyland, they’re identical), in Disney World, there are a few important changes.

In Disney World, Genie+ had a service that could only be purchased the day-of. Now, that service can be purchased in advance of your trip.

Individual Lightning Lanes have also gotten a name change, becoming Lightning Lane Single Pass. With Individual Lightning Lanes, could previously purchase up to two Individual Lightning Lanes for standalone attractions per day instead of paying for a full day of Genie+. Lightning Lane Single Pass works similarly but, at Disney World, can also be purchased in advance.

How Lightning Lane Multi Pass Works

Wondering how Lightning Lane Multi Pass works? It will depend on the park you’re visiting. At Disney World, the service is a bit of a mash-up of the previous Disney Genie+ and FastPass. At Disneyland, you won’t notice many changes at all with the new name of the service. We’ll be explaining some of the major differences on how Multi Pass works at Disney World vs. Disneyland.

Lighting Lane Multi Pass at Disney World

Disney World’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass will work similarly to the previous Disney Genie+, with a few significant changes. The biggest is that the service can now be purchased in advance, an option that was not previously available. Guests can purchase Lightnign Lane passes for days they have valid theme park admission starting at 7 EST on their first day of eligibility. here’s how that works:

  • Guests of Disney World Resort Hotels and Other Select Hotels*: Guests can begin purchasing seven days before the first day of their Resort stay for the length of their stay (up to 14 days).
  • Guests With Date-Based Tickets:Guests can start purchasing three days before the first day of their ticket for the total number of valid admission days on their ticket.
  • Guests With Other Ticket Types:Guiests can purchase for the current day and up to three consecutive future days.
  • Annual Passholders:Annual Passholders can purchase for the current day and up to three consecutive future days.

*Other select hotels include the Walt Disney World Swan, Swan Reserve and Dolphin Hotels, and Shades of Green Resort.

Once you have arrived at the theme park, you can use the first of your Lightning Lane reservations, and can then make another. All guests who purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass can make up to three advanced Lightning Lane selections per day, choosing one from Group One and two from Group Two (a similar tiered system to the former FastPass+). The one exception to this tiered system is Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Here’s how each of the parks breaks down their groups:

How Does Park Hopping Work at Disney World?

When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for a theme park, you’ll get to choose three selections and arrival windows for that park. Once those are redeemed, you can then choose selections at a different theme park, as long as you have a Park Hopper or Annual Pass. That means even if you purchased the less expensive Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you’ll still have access to selections at the more expensive parks once all of your selections have been redeemed.

Lighting Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland

Unlike Disney World, the switch from Disney Genie+ to Lightning Lane Multi Pass doesn’t bring many changes to Disneyland Resort. Name change aside, Lightning Lane Multi Pass will continue to function just like Genie+ did at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Here’s how it works:

  • Purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass (can be purchased day of or in advance)
  • Select your first attraction and arrival window
  • After redeeming your first Lightning Lane select another, and continue that throughout the day.
