Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

³⁶Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” ^(A)Jesus answered him, “Where I am going ^(B)you cannot follow me now, ^(C)but you will follow afterward.” ^37(D)Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” ³⁸Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(E)the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14^(F)“Let not your hearts be troubled. ^(G)Believe in God;^[a] believe also in me. ²In ^(H)my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that ^(I)I go to prepare a place for you?^{[b] 3}And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you ^(J)to myself, that ^(K)where I am you may be also. ⁴And you know the way to where I am going.”^{[c] 5(L)}Thomas said to him, “Lord, ^(M)we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” ⁶Jesus said to him, “I am ^(N)the way, and ^(O)the truth, and ^(P)the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ^7(Q)If you had known me, you would have ^(R)known my Father also.^[d] From now on you do know him and ^(S)have seen him.”

^8(T)Philip said to him, “Lord, ^(U)show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” ⁹Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? ^(V)Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

³⁶Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.

³⁷Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

³⁸Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The co*ck shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

14Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

²In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

³And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

⁴And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

⁵Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

⁶Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

⁷If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

⁸Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

⁹Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
