How long does Matthews paint last? ›

Matthews conventional acrylic polyurethane paints provide unsurpassed color, gloss retention and durability over a variety of substrates including metal, wood and many first surface plastics.

Use mild detergent water solution utilizing a soft wash mitt or cloth followed by a thorough clean water rinse. Dry with a damp chamois, microfiber towel, or soft cloth. Full gloss finishes: if polishing or waxing is desired, apply with a soft, damp, cloth-covered sponge and buff with a soft microfiber cloth.

Locate the “3:1:1” measurement ratio grid printed on the cup. 4. Pour the paint into the cup until the paint reaches the “4” in the left column of the “3:1:1” grid.

You might notice the consistency of your paint has changed. There may be a “skin” on the surface or lumps that won't stir out. If either of these is present, your paint has most likely expired.

What is the best thing to clean paint with? ›

For wet paint, blot the paint with a clean cloth, then rinse with cold water. For oil-based paints, use a paint thinner before washing. If dealing with dried water-based paint, soak the stain in warm water mixed with laundry detergent. Then, scrub gently.

In particular, an unopened can of latex or acrylic paint lasts up to 10 years. For unopened paints that are oil-based or alkyd-based, the shelf life could be up to 15 years. Additionally, chalk paint has a shorter lifespan from 1-3 years, and milk paint only lasts 1-2 weeks after its mixed.

Farrow and Ball recommend using the paint within 6 months of purchase to avoid any deterioration in the paint quality. However for it to last longer it needs to be protected from frost and extreme temperatures, so where it is stored is an important factor.

The good news is that if you have an unopened can of paint that has been stored properly, it's almost guaranteed to still be fine to use. Unopened latex and water-based acrylic paints can last up to 10 years and alkyd and oil-based paints can last up to 15 years.
