Sony just take back full control of the character. y’all are doing the MCU a favor.

@FlopWatchers5 - if they get the Spider-Verse people on it, definitely. If they get the Venom/Morbius/Madame Web squad on it, no thanks.

Timerider -2/18/2024,9:58 AM

@FlopWatchers5 - Sony may sell the rights back to Marvel because of how bad Madame Webb failed. Last time they wanted 10 billion. They may get him cheaper now. I would tell Sony no, it’ll come out in summer 2026. They may strike a deal by doing that.

Just bring Bob Iger in and let him whip his big money dick out on the table and say "Spider-Man's ours now. Go buy yourself a new dress".

Blergh -2/18/2024,7:14 AM

@ObserverIO - why would Sony sell the most profitable IP they own? Even if Disney was at it's peak they couldn't buy Spidey off of Sony. What makes you think they could do so now?
Sony won't let go of Spidey, the failures of the other movies only goes to show that they need the actual Spider-Man in their movies.

Origame -2/18/2024,7:27 AM

@ObserverIO - considering how much money disney has been losing recently and the fact no way home made near $2 bil, how exactly is that gonna happen?

Login to report abuse

ObserverIO -2/18/2024,7:53 AM

@Blergh - @Origame - Because of Bob Iger's big money dick.

Bob Iger has a very large penis made entirely out of money. He doesn't mind taking some of that money off his dick and giving it to people for IP. Muppets, Marvel, Fox, Pixar, Lucasfilm, etc. etc.

Whether it's gotta be Spider-Man or Sony they buy, Marvel really needs to get control of their own characters again. Spider-Man belong with Marvel. Sony are trashing the brand with their SPUMC movies. Three this year!

Also, yes, Spider-Man is a very lucrative franchise for them. NWH made almost 2 billion. BECAUSE OF MARVEL STUDIOS!

Without Marvel Sony ain't got sh*t.

It's time they stopped making money for Sony and instead paid them off for good. You've got to cut the gordian cord with these kinda people. They're always gonna be a problem (myriad disparate problems in fact) for Marvel unless Bobby the bossman steps in and makes them go away.

Bobby the Bossman and his very large penis made entirely out moolah.

Origame -2/18/2024,8:07 AM

@ObserverIO - thats highly debatable. Especially considering no way home was as successful as it was from legacy characters made by Sony and marvel has been struggling even harder recently than Sony.

Quite frankly, I think them working together is the best thing for this franchise. We've seen what disney did to Thor.

ObserverIO -2/18/2024,8:23 AM

@Origame - Yeah they turned it into a joke from an old '80s movie into a massive worldwide franchise.

@Origame - Made an international superstar out of Chris Hemsworth too.

vectorsigma -2/18/2024,8:45 AM

@ObserverIO - i disagree on the "because of marvel studios" comment.

Thank the pandemic (scamdemic depending on your perspective) and the earlier spider-man films for that. And the MCU didnt even reach 1B after the pandemic. Even with MoM with a similar multiverse story and coming right after nwh.

Origame -2/18/2024,8:56 AM

@ObserverIO - ...but this is modern mcu. It's back to being a joke, just without the 80s movie.

@ObserverIO - again, not current mcu.

ObserverIO -2/18/2024,9:20 AM

@vectorsigma - MoM made money too. there are only 6 movies that made 2 billy, three of them are James Cameron movies, one of them is The Force Awakens and the other two are MCU movies. Coming up on it's tail is NWH, another MCU movie.

You can say that this was due to old Sony characters, but if it hadn't been grounded in a universe that everybody loved that consistently had billion dollar grossing movies then it would have probably been as successful as The Flash. Imagine a movie where instead of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, it's Tom Hardy's Venom that goes on an advernture with Maguire and Garfield. Wouldn't have hit as hard. No not even because of Garfield. Remember The Flash had Michael Keaton's Batman in it.

Sony teamed up with Marvel to make money. Marvel made them money.

Anything contrary is retroactive history. It's obvious what happened.

Get the guys who makes billions to creatively oversee your movie and then it just happens to make close to 2 billion. Oh what a coincidence. And Far From Home made $1.132 billion. Sony had never come close to breaking a billion with Spider-Man before Marvel Studios came along.

Timerider -2/18/2024,10:05 AM

@Blergh - they lost a lot of money with Madame Webb, they might be desperate and cut a deal with Marvel. I think they wanted 10 billion for him. They could give them 5 billion and certain profits off Spidey until the debt is paid off. But, seeing how they are trying to cut cost at Disney, that may not happen, but it is a possibility.

bkmeijer1 -2/18/2024,7:04 AM

If Sony wanted it out ASAP, they probably had cameras rolling already. Christmas of this year would've been perfect, as there is no other major release beside Mufasa at that time.

I think they should aim for a July or December 2026 release instead. It might stand a chance against Star Wars in December of that year, but no way is it taking on Avatar 3 next year.

Taonrey -2/18/2024,7:54 AM

@bkmeijer1 - Sony probably won’t budge on both not having a July 2025 date and a spiderverse movie. Marvel is going to have to give up one of those.

bkmeijer1 -2/18/2024,9:43 AM

@Taonrey - I don't know what the state is of Beyond the Spider-Verse, but if that's delayed to next year I could see them be okay with MCU Spider-Man being a year later

The failure of both Morbius and Madam Web would result in any studio following what Kevin Feige believes is best for the film, but Sony's film division is different, it doesn't run on logic. I can definitely see them using Spider-Man 4 to help their dying shared universe over there.

Login to report abuse

Origame -2/18/2024,7:28 AM

@Th3Batman - well the failures of films like quantumania and the marvels gives them some points in the debate. Both universes are dying if you didn't notice.

Login to report abuse

bkmeijer1 -2/18/2024,7:44 AM

@Th3Batman - if they had even the smallest bit of logic in their socks, I think they would've moved forward with Maguire and/or Garfield Spider-Man movies by now.

They probably already wanna bring them back for another Spider-Verse movie, so I don't see why they work their way up to it by showing them indivually again first.

Taonrey -2/18/2024,7:56 AM

@bkmeijer1 - they should’ve just did a Andrew and Tobey team up. There your multiverse right there. If you want you can even throw in an Emma stone Gwen and someone as Miles. Idk why they didn’t use that momentum they got from No way home with tobey and Andrew

Th3Batman -2/18/2024,8:01 AM

@Origame - Quantumania and The Marvels are The Dark Knight compared to what Sony's been putting out. Those two may have not stuck the landing, but at least you can see they tried. Sony on the other hand just jumped in front of traffic and called it a day with their attempts.

Th3Batman -2/18/2024,8:03 AM

@bkmeijer1 - My understanding of the No Way Home behind the scenes is that both actors only got involved due to Kevin Feige's involvement with the movie. There have been many rumors since 2021 that Sony has been trying to make continuations of their franchises, but the stars are seemingly not interested if Feige isn't involved.

Login to report abuse

Origame -2/18/2024,8:10 AM

@Th3Batman - while I think it's debatable, money wise it's no contest. Morbius nearly broke even while both quantumania and the marvels lost hundreds of millions of dollars. And while madame web is struggling, it's still doing better than the marvels relative to its budget.

In fact, Sony can literally burn all the money they made off of madame web so far and remove the film from all theaters and they'd still be in a better financial position than disney with the marvels.

@Th3Batman - I can see all three iterations of Spider-Man saying no to a crossover with Morb and Mad damn web.

bkmeijer1 -2/18/2024,9:42 AM

@Taonrey @Th3Batman - there is indeed probably a lot of factors than require the both of them to come back, but maybe there's definitely a good story to tell. Wonder how they look at Sony's Spider-Verse and if that's worth exploring as well

They both need to release a Spider-Man movie,it's guaranteed dollar for both of them.

And their recent movies aren't making money.

Login to report abuse

Timerider -2/18/2024,10:17 AM

@marvel72 - not necessarily, do you remember Sam Raimi’s Spider-man 3? Avi Arad stuck his nose in pushed to have Venom in the movie, that ruined Sandman’s story with his daughter and fleshing out his story more.

It really depends on the script, it’s not a billion dollar movie guaranteed.

There also might be scheduling conflicts with Dune part 3 that Sony and Marvel may have to address.

All Sony has to do, is choose a Peter Parker.🤣 I assume Tobey and Andrew wouldn't be interested in continuing on long-term. So Sony could just cast an their own Peter, and do whatever they want. Sony and Marvel forcing themselves to work together, is so dumb.

Marv should do the following:
1. Drop Spider-Man for a few years, let Sony implode.
2. Have Disney buy the Sony scraps (or let Spider-Man revert to them when Apple buys Sony.)
3. In 2030, do a new Spidey reboot without Sony buffoonery.

RE: "It's now been more than two years since Spider-Man: No Way Home saved theaters, but there are still no definitive signs of Spider-Man 4 being on the horizon."
-----Well, they may want to hurry--Tom Holland is not getting younger, y`know.

RE: "...Marvel Studios, there have been rumblings lately that they and Sony Pictures are clashing over what direction the wall-crawler should head in. The former is said to want a street-level story which pairs Spidey up with Daredevil for a battle with The Kingpin, while the latter hopes to reunite the three Spider-Men - Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire - for another reality-hopping adventure."
-----Personally, I would prefer to get back to the 'Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' concept with a Manhattan-centered story, along the lines of some of the classic Lee/Ditko early Spider-Man stories.

BUT, things being the way they are; I would bet money on another High-Concept, Earth-Shaking Consequences multiple-Spider-MEN get-together.....as it is MONEY that is the goal here, not good story telling.
