After the first 17 IOS update I would have to click on my voicemail a couple of times for it to show up. I just downloaded the new 17 and now I can’t get my voicemail at all. It’s empty. I know it’s not empty. I had messages in there prior. Plus iPhone 14 pro notified me that people left messages but I can’t find them, when I go to my messages, there is nothing in there. It sounds like this whole 17 iOS and voicemail is a mess. Also my voice texting is being very weird. I have to hit it like five times for it to work. I’m sure I’m missing something else. That’s weird about these updates.
I feel horrible for the people that are deaf and the mess these updates caused them! if anybody has any idea how I should fix this? Please let me know.

I was saving my father’s voicemails because he’s very sick and may not be with us for much longer. The new iOS deleted his voicemails. I’m heartbroken because he can’t leave me voicemails any longer. If anyone knows anything I can do, please let me know!

This worked! Thank you soooo much! I have so many important voicemails, including my father, who is now deceased.

Same issue here. I can't get voicemail messages any longer. The issue started immediately after the last update from Apple. I have never had this issue before.
My iPhone shows that there is a message, and when I attempt to listen to it, the message disappears.

If losing the voicemails after the iOS 17 update is from the Live Voicemail or via iCloud toggle, whoever thought the Live VM was necessary — NO! This feature did not take into account of family shared iClouds and personal voicemails are GONE. My deceased father’s VMs to me are gone. No amount of money can replace anyone’s grievances regarding this d*mb feature.

My problem is that my greeting disappeared. I’ve had the same greeting for about 10 years, which was my daughter when she was five years old. Whenever I’ve changed, phones, or upgraded phones the greeting has never changed. I can’t redo that greeting. And it was randomly lost after the second to last 17 update I cry every day.

I have the same problem. I had a voicemail saved from my Dad who has passed. It is gone. I have tried to turn off the live voicemail but it did not help. Any other suggestions??

If iOS17 screwed up your carriers voicemail's, go to settings, phone, live voicemail…,turn it off!! Restart your phone.

Since iOS17 update have lost my carriers voicemail. Did refresh, reset on phone and with carrier. Nada. Called Apple support. No help. Blamed carrier. Same on my wife’s iPhone. Same with my son-who is with different carrier!!

Agree. After this last update 17.2.1 I can no longer access deleted voicemail. No longer an option. Not a choice to pick. So frustrating.
My heart goes out to those who have lost long held vms with family members whove died. ❤️

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have tried them; none have fixed the issue.
The issue definitely started with the last update from Apple.

Settings > Phone > Live Voicemail > toggle from on to off > restart phone
Right after restarting, I checked my voicemails and the ones that were gone started popping back up

I am having the same issue and have had iPhones since the iPhone 4 - this is not something I have experienced prior to the iOS 17 update. My voicemail screen is completely blank even when the notification comes up that I have a new message. I have confirmed all settings are correct and was not experiencing this issue prior to the update.

I tried this method as well with the same results. Been in tears all day. Apple can never make this up to me for this loss. I will never hear my Mom’s voice again thanks to their flawed update.

I found a way that worked! I erased all settings and restarted my phone back to factory settings. Then in the setup I clicked the option to restore phone from most recent back up. Thankfully it had backed up over night just a few hours before this all happened! Once that process was completed I only got some of my voicemails back, but then magically a few days later all of them were back! It just took time for them all to download again. I did lose some photos and safari pages I had open but that’s a price I’m willing to pay to get my loved ones Vm back who have passed away. If you try this, and it still doesn’t work or you don’t wanna risk resetting your phone another suggestion that was made was to call into your voicemail. The old-fashioned way using *86 and they should all be there and then you can play them and maybe record them on another device to save. Also for future reference I was told by an apple genius you can email voicemails to yourself. So any really important ones from here on out I will be doing that!
