Does Tyla’s Grammy win signal a shift in the global music landscape? This year, amidst the glittering array of stars and historic wins, a new narrative unfolded—one that might redefine how we perceive African music on the global stage. In the brand new Best African Music Performance category, Tyla scooped the award for her hit ‘Water’, a track that’s firmly in the Amapiano camp. The genre, coming out of South Africa, is changing the conversation around African music; Afrobeats isn't the only game in town – not by a long chalk. But this isn't just about a new category or a single award. It's about the recognition of diverse talents, and evolving global sounds. Amapiano's popularisation, led by artists like Tyla, signifies a broader acceptance and celebration of African music, beyond the familiar sound of Afrobeats. But why Amapiano, and why now? And what does this mean for the future of global music scenes, from K-Pop to the next undiscovered genre waiting in the wings?Dive into the full story behind this Grammy milestone, explore the controversy surrounding the new category, and discover what this could herald for the future of music on the global stage.📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eDr5D7vF#Grammys2024 #amapiano #musictech #musicindustry #musicintelligence

Latin music saw tremendous growth between 2020 and 2022, with a 55.29% increase in album consumption in the U.S., surpassing the growth of other major genres like R&B/hip-hop, rock, pop, and country. Now, this surge is fueled by artists collaborating across genres and major music corporations actively promoting these collaborations to reach diverse audiences and tap into new markets. In Brazil, we have a rich musical heritage from our African rhythms roots, indigenous traditions, and diverse cultural influences. Iconic genres such as samba, bossa nova, funk, sertanejo (Brazilian country music), and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) have a significant following among the majority of the population. While Brazilians may have a deep connection to their own musical traditions, it can sometimes limit their exposure and interest in Latin music from other countries. This is often due to a lack of knowledge about the Latin music industry and the emphasis placed on promoting national sounds within the Brazilian music industry. However, by breaking down these barriers and embracing the diverse world of Latin music, we can unlock exciting creative possibilities and foster cultural exchange. #LatinMusic #CulturalExchange #MusicIndustry #DiverseAudiences #BrazilianMusic #ExploringGenres#music https://lnkd.in/d4PT4nXT
